A couple of much bigger sites tried to stir the hornets nest about all this a while ago when the game was still relevant and the reply from Square was "uh the AMD drivers coming up will hopefully fix that one crash". There is just no reason for them to spend the resources on fixing it anymore. The game sold well (which I'm glad for) with the performance issues seemingly holding very little sway on Steam sales. If they were going to do anything at all that was the time to say something about it. No sane publisher adds DLC to a broken game without at least making SOME attempt to resolve a few issues first. Game drops frames whenever the machines explode and I get frequent random freezes when running around the world. I would love to replay it and do all the side quests but the performance issues really come to a head when that initial rush of the first(s) playthrough has gone. I loved the game but that was in spite of the performance issues. Daniels is MIA and we're unlikely to see any updates. So yeah, I think Square Enix completely took over the PC port and failed to work with Platinum to get updates out. Daniels is part of the Square Enix community team and hasn't been on steam in 137 days (Sept 6 2017).

But when compared to the games they published AND developed, Nier sticks out like a sore thumb against a sea of Square Enix properties like Final Fantasy.īayonetta and Vanquish have pinned update threads from Sega Dev, a steam user that actually has 40+ hours on each game and was last seen ~5 days ago. Square Enix has published many games on steam in 2017. I think the name of the company in the dev field is not a trivial matter and a huge legal thing, so Square likely took complete control over the PC port. Even if the publishers get the last say in what gets to Steam, all but Nier still have Platinum as the devs.
